The weight of life knows no species; the commitment to care remains ever fervent. Recently, Beijing VJTBio Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “VJTBio”) received a special gift – a silk banner inscribed with the words “Helping Pets Fight Cancer, A Boundless Kindness,” along with a heartfelt thank-you letter. Between the lines is the gratitude of Mr. Li Jun, the owner of “Da Bao,” a Golden Retriever, spanning more than 760 days and nights. It is also the highest praise for VJTBio’s dedication and relentless efforts in the field of pet oncology, using technology to protect pets’ lives.

01 A Diagnosis and a Race Against Time

· Name: Da Bao

· Breed: Golden Retriever

· Sex: Female (spayed)

· Date of Birth: May 17, 2013

· Onset of Illness: On December 5, 2023, the dog was found to be listless, with fair appetite, normal urination, able to walk with difficulty, mild abdominal fullness with a slight dullness on percussion.

· Final Diagnosis: Hepatocellular carcinoma

In December 2023, 10-year-old Golden Retriever “Da Bao” was diagnosed with an intra-abdominal space-occupying lesion – a large mass on the left liver lobe, enlarged hepatic lymph nodes, and splenic mass, among other severe indicators. The veterinarian’s comprehensive assessment delivered a grim prognosis: a survival of less than three months. Listless and with a diminished appetite, the once lively dog grew increasingly weak, plunging Da Bao’s family into endless anxiety and heartache.

After three months of basic treatment, Da Bao’s family, through a consultation with Dr. Gao Jindong, had the dog enrolled as a case in an oncology clinical study, gaining access to VJTBio’s independently developed canine PD-1 immunotherapy. This marked not only a turning point for Da Bao but also a beacon of hope in the field of pet oncology.

02 760 Days and Nights of Devotion – A Miracle of Extended Life

Da Bao, a Golden Retriever with hepatocellular carcinoma, was enrolled for treatment with the VJT301 PD-1 product starting January 2, 2024. The dog persisted with the treatment for two years and one month, passing away peacefully and without pain on January 31, 2026, at the age of 13 – living more than two years beyond the veterinarian’s initial prognosis of less than three months. To express their gratitude to VJTBio, the family specially presented the silk banner and thank-you letter.

As a breakthrough technology in oncology, PD-1 immunotherapy activates the pet’s own immune system to precisely identify and attack tumor cells, offering new hope for companion animals with severe cancer. Throughout the course of PD-1 treatment, “Da Bao” showed good tolerance without severe adverse reactions, and its vitality, appetite, and mobility gradually improved, with a significantly enhanced quality of life. The additional 760-plus days of life were precious moments of companionship between the family and their beloved dog, and allowed “Da Bao” to spend its final years comfortably, peacefully, and with dignity.

03 Deep Commitment to Pet Healthcare – Fulfilling a Mission Through Professional Excellence

“Helping Pets Fight Cancer, A Boundless Kindness” – this silk banner is not only a recognition but also a profound responsibility. Since its establishment, VJTBio has consistently focused on the field of pet oncology, with scientific innovation as its core, dedicating itself to the R&D and clinical application of immunotherapies such as PD-1. The product is a fully canine-derived PD-1, designed specifically for the canine immune system, fundamentally avoiding the immunogenicity risks associated with cross-species use of human drugs, and providing a “Best-in-class” precision solution for canine cancer treatment. The company has overcome numerous technical challenges and broken through industry barriers - from rigorous laboratory validation to precise clinical application. Although existing treatments such as surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy can be effective, they still have limitations. Immunotherapy offers a differentiated mechanism of action, with the potential to achieve more durable responses, thus addressing a significant unmet need in the field of veterinary oncology. VJTBio’s independently developed PD-1 immunotherapy is also the first pet antibody drug successfully licensed overseas from China. Leveraging cutting-edge technologies, it promotes a new generation of immunotherapy for pet cancer diagnosis and treatment, bringing new hope for longer, healthier survival for dogs with cancer worldwide.
